Château Peyros is part of the Lesgourgues wine estates under the Maidon Leda umbrella that includes Chateau de Laubade and other Bordeaux estates. The Lesgourgues family has been running these estates for 3 generations.  Peyros means “a stony place” in the Gascony language, which represents the exceptional terroir of the estate made up of dense clay and limestone soil. The estate is situated in the region of Madiran, Southwest France.

This 17th century estate and mansion features over 20 hectares of vines that are cultivated through sustainable agriculture. The Peyros vineyards are planted with 70% Tannat vines and 30% Cabernet Franc vines. The wines of this region are predominantly based on the Tannat grape. The Tannat grape is known for its health benefits due to high levels of Resveratrol on the grape skins, which is believed to be beneficial to heart health and is classified as a super antioxidant.

The Wines

The Winery

Situated in Madiran, France

The Madiran region started producing wines in the 1600s. Chateau Peyros owns the furthest south facing vineyard in Madiran, which means that their vines are exposed to day-long sun, resulting in full maturation of the grapes. This full photosynthesis of the vineyards allows for high quality wine production due to higher quality, mature fruit. Their converted wine cellar dates back to the 17th century, originally used as a cow shed. Each year, Chateau Peyros purchases 40 new barrels for aging made from Allier, Tronçais and Vosges oak.
