Tipperary Distillery

Tipperary Distillery

Situated in the heart of the Golden Vale of Ireland lies the Tipperary Boutique Distillery, which was founded in 2014 by Jennifer Nickerson, Stuart Nickerson and Liam Ahearn. Together they leverage their varying backgrounds in distilling, financial planning and farming to produce excellent, world class whiskies. The Ahearn family has owned the Ballindoney farm in Tipperary for over 200 years and 5 generations later, Liam Ahearn spearheads the responsibility of growing pure Irish barley on the farm’s arable land. The local barley is used in the production of the Tipperary whiskies and so after 6 years, the stage is now set for the distillery to release their first home grown, single estate Irish single malt whiskey.

The Spirits

The Distillery

Situated in County Tipperary, Ireland

Tipperary Distillery is partnered with the Ballindoney farm, who grows the grain for their soon-to-release home-grown whiskies. The farm and distillery lie on a plain of land sheltered by the Galtee, Knockmealdowns and Comeragh mountains, with freshwater flowing down from the mountain range to be collected and used to cut their whiskey. The Tipperary distillery is the region’s first distillery in over 150 years.

This new distillery is in good hands with Stuart Nickerson, world-acclaimed whisky expert, who consults on the distillation and fermentation processes, wood choices and maturation decisions. All this great whiskey experience is essential for the development of this new distillery into becoming a world-class Irish distillery.

The People

It was fate and love that brought about the birth of Tipperary Distillery when Jennifer Nickerson met Liam Ahearn, who is a 5th generation manager of his family’s 200 year old farm in Tipperary county. Together, with Jennifer’s father, Stuart Nickerson, they opened Tipperary’s first distillery in over 150 years.

Jennifer is an expert in administration and financing, not to mention a love of whiskey. Her father, Stuart, is a world renowned whisky expert, having managed such storied distilleries as Highland Park, Balvanie, Glenrothes, Bladnoch and Glenfiddich, among others. His knowledge and expertise is paramount to the production processes of creating excellent whiskies. Finally, Liam is the chief agricultural consultant for the Ballindoney farm, which produces the ever-important barley grain used in the production of the Tipperary whiskies. This team of three is moving this new, boutique distillery to great heights.
