Massimo Rivetti

Massimo Rivetti

In 1948, Massimo Rivetti’s parents planted their first vineyard as a means to secure a future for their son as a grower and winemaker. Five generations later, the Massimo Rivetti family farm is comprised of 25 hectares of organic vineyards in the town of Neive, Piedmont. The vineyards are situated in 3 areas, Froi, Garassino and Palazzini, with 3 working farmhouses in each. Since 2009 they have converted their vineyards to organic certification. Meticulous vineyard management is implicit in the production of high-quality grapes. No pesticides or herbicides are used for pest control. The main production is Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes with some international varieties planted in small quantities. Tradition, innovation and an organic commitment make for great boutique wines.

The Winery

Situated in Piedmont, Italy

The Massimo Rivetti winery pays very careful and diligent attention from the way they maintain and grow their vineyards to the way they produce their wines. Each vineyard is planted to produce limited yields per hectare in order to fully maximize grape quality, production area and the terroir. A special focus on organic farming is taken seriously with completely natural processes employed in the management of the vineyards. Their vines are 35 to 70 years of age, among the oldest in the region and all vineyard work is hand done with grass removal and mulching to reduce plant stress. Natural manure produced on site is used for fertilizer. All harvest is done by hand to preserve the quality of the grapes.

The meticulous work continues into the cellar with the use of modern technology, temperature-controlled fermentation and frequent pump-overs to extract colour and polyphenolic attributes. Stainless steel tanks are used for younger wines and age-worthy wines are aged in Slavonian oak and French barriques. The philosophy is to keep the natural qualities of the wines intact and natural. Minimal sulfites are used. No microfiltration is used in the bottling process in order for the wines to retain fullness and the characteristics of their terroir.
