It is one of the vineyards with a higher concentration of calcium in the soil that gives the wine a powerful tannic structure. The extra heat of the South facing slope is responsible for the Montestefano's full body and almost meaty texture. It is a deeply flavoured wine with massive tannins, but quite ripe and well integrated because of the warm exposure. For all these reasons, it is probably the Barbaresco cru that is most reminiscent of Barolo where tar and roses prevail on the refined violet flavours.
